Never underestimate the power of a smile! A thirty-year longitudinal study based on high school year book pictures found that the width of one's smile is directly correlated with well-being, financial success, marital satisfaction, and life expectancy. 
The physical act of smiling reduces stress-inducing hormones and increases mood-enhancing brain chemistry. Studies have shown that smiling makes you appear better looking and more competent. Darwin felt that smiling caters to the social aspects of survival. It makes those around you feel good and therefore want to be around you.
